We have had mixed success with spellings this week in our weekly test...
It was clear some people had taken the time to learn them in and out of school whereas others were very honest and admitted they hadn't committed to learning them as they should have.
So... Next week, we will be continuing to work on adding different suffixes with some as well as introducing our new focus with others.
The new spelling focus is below, so please take a look and work together at home to learn them.
WALT spell words with endings which sound like
–cious and –tious

Words
ending with ious are defined as having the qualities of, full of.
An
example of the ious suffix is the word ambitious, meaning having ambition.

Most other words should adopt the tious spelling.

As
with most rules in the English language, there are exceptions to the rules.
Children will need to learn if any words do not follow these patterns, e.g.
anxious.
Below
are a number of words that you can practice/ explore these rules with. This
is just a very small selection of –ious words… Can you think of any more?
Your
child may be tested on any of these words at the end of the week so please
support them in exploring which rules to apply to transform each word so they
are prepared and ready for anything!
Many
thanks,
Miss
Barrell
