I can spell
words that end in:
Ø –ant, -ance, -ancy
Ø -ent, -ence, -ency
|
||
We use –ant and –ance/-ancy if there’s a related
word with the a sound or if the root ends in –ation this is often a clue.
|
|||
1. We use –ent and –ence/ -ency after a soft c (sounds
like s), soft g and qu.
|
|||
2. There
are some exceptions where
this guidance does not work; we just have to learn those words.
|
|||
Below are a number of words that you will need to learn
over the coming week. Your child may be tested on any of these words at the
end of the week (to a maximum of 10) so please support them in exploring them
so they are prepared and ready for anything!
Don’t forget to keep learning the core 5/6 words as these
will be tested at random. Each week we will choose 2 words from the core word
list in addition to the week’s spelling focus words.
Many thanks,
Miss Barrell and Mr Storr
