SATs information sessions for parents/carers
A letter will be coming out next week regarding 2 after school sessions we are running (on the 22nd and the 25th of January) about the upcoming SATs . These sessions are intended to inform you and your children about what to expect and how to prepare in order for them to achieve the very best they are capable of.
A preview of the letter is below. When you receive it, please fill in the slip at the bottom to let us know which of the sessions you would like to attend if you are able and return it by the end of next week.
If you are unable to attend, please get in touch and I can make appointments to discuss arrangements with you separately.

Maths pre-load: Multiplying and dividing fractions
So this week we have focussed on the addition and subtraction of fractions; from next week we will be progressing on to multiplying and dividing fractions.
To help you get ahead of the game, I have linked a tutorial to a site that talks you through how to do these calculations so you can feel confident coming in to the week.
Click the images below and they will take you directly to the tutorials. If you want to have a little practise you can try some of the calculations below- feel free to record these in your homework books neatly and I'll check them over for you.
Good luck!

Maths homework 12.1.18
Happy Friday everyone- we hope you have a lovely weekend. To make sure we are staying on top of things, here is your homework for maths this week.
These questions are to be completed in your new homework books.
Remember:
See you Monday,
Miss Barrell
Remember:
- Presentation in these books should be of the same standard as those kept in schools- keep them clean, dry and safe.
- For each piece of work you complete, please record the date (in full) as well as the title of the activity.
- One digit per square for maths activities.
- Use a ruler for straight lines.
- All homework books MUST be in school every Wednesday for work to be marked.
- Additional work (from blog activities) can also be recorded in these books.
See you Monday,
Miss Barrell

Adding and subtracting fractions
Hi all,
As promised, here is a little something extra to get your teeth in to if you want/ need a little extra practise in the fractions department.
This week we have been going over adding and subtracting fractions and we have come across a few golden rules to help us...
We cannot do this as the denominators are different (4 and 7)
The lowest common multiple of both of these numbers is 28 (4x7= 28; 7x4=28)
So because we multiplied the denominators by 7 and 4, we must do that to the top too which then leaves us with 14/28 + 12/28 which equals 26/28
As promised, here is a little something extra to get your teeth in to if you want/ need a little extra practise in the fractions department.
This week we have been going over adding and subtracting fractions and we have come across a few golden rules to help us...
- The denominators must be the same before we can add or subtract- if they're different we need to find the lowest common multiple to take the place of the old ones and recalculate the numerators before we continue,
We cannot do this as the denominators are different (4 and 7)
The lowest common multiple of both of these numbers is 28 (4x7= 28; 7x4=28)
- Whatever we do to the bottom we must do to the top.
So because we multiplied the denominators by 7 and 4, we must do that to the top too which then leaves us with 14/28 + 12/28 which equals 26/28
- We can simplify fractions using the highest common factor of the numerator and denominator. So, the highest number that I can count in to reach both 26 and 28 is 2.
Now that we have recapped those, let's try some more fractions calculations:
Bring your answers in and I'll check them over for you!
If you still want more then I have attached some links below that you might want to check out... Sometimes it helps to hear things explained by different people in different ways!

Weekly attendance... Christmas week
Hi all and welcome back- I hope your 2018 has started off well.
Ours certainly has... Quite unexpectedly, during Monday's attendance assembly, it was announced that 6SB had won the attendance award for the first time this year!!!
As you are aware, the target is 96% and we achieved...
Wait for it...
As you are aware, the target is 96% and we achieved...
100%
I wasn't expecting that at all but it has proved once and for all that we can do it and as we approach the end of year 6, it's more important than ever. So with that in mind, let's really go for it- let's aim to have the highest attendance every week!
If you find it a struggle, think about what you can do at home to help:
- Get your clothes and school bag prepared the night before so you're not rushing in the morning.
- Set an alarm (or two) five minutes earlier each morning so you don't sleep in.
- If you find you're just tooooo tired in the morning, think- am I getting enough sleep? Go to bed half an hour earlier and see if that helps.
- Try shutting off from computers/ phones/ tablets/TV an hour before bed so you are ready for sleep.
Let us know if these help or suggest some things that work for you in the comments.
